“Kong: Skull Island”, Talking about Kong is dealing with one of the most iconic monsters of popular culture. Even if you are not familiar with the history of the giant primate, it is a character that is in the collective imagination of anyone who calls himself a movie fanatic.
On this occasion, the film directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, presents a narrative of origin located at a delicate moment for the United States and the general world.
The Second World War is over and the war against Vietnam is recent. The context is a time of tension between the country mentioned and Russia, but humans have other more important things to worry about.
In this new version of Kong, we see a group of obsessed scientists an island that climatologically is impenetrable - they belong to the Monarch organization, yes the same that appears in Godzilla (2014).
This team, made up of Bill Randa (John Goodman), Corey Hawkins (Houston Brooks) and San (Tian Jing) will obtain the approval of the North American government to carry out the dangerous expedition in the company of a military guard under Preston Packard Samuel L. Jackson), as well as bounty hunter and survival expert James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and photographer Mason Weaver (Brie Larson).
#3 A great release date: March 17, 2017
To say that the film has an excellent cast is not enough, but who really get the awards for best performances are Jackson portraying a warped and hardened commander in the war, and Larson by giving life to the pacifist woman who establishes this connection with the Huge gorilla - something that is a constant in previous tapes. It is necessary to emphasize that this new delivery places the human from a perspective where it is destroyer of everything that touches and, most important, is the owner of the world. The script mainly focuses on showing us that it is not, has never been, nor will be.
One of the first hits of this film is to place all the action in a place far from civilization; A location that has not been touched by the hand of man - here too lies the idea of a kind of Eden - where prehistoric creatures coexist in a totally unknown ecosystem.
This was a great idea, as it is the first step to realize that we are facing a different remake. The adventure is not located in New York City with huge skyscrapers and buildings, but in a gigantic natural jungle.
Another great plus that has the title and perhaps its strongest point, is to show us to Kong almost from the beginning. And let me tell you that your design and CGI is what every monster lover has wanted to see.
In addition, resources are not spared in making scenes in order to show it from all possible perspectives so we can delight in the great realism that has. However, the film fails in other things like the reaction of the characters to the attack of the gorilla. At times, their emotions do not feel reliable since they are very calm and most of the times, the protagonists keep the composure. Who would not go insane to see a huge 100-meter-tall gorilla?.
